Alexandra Rozenman immigrated to America from the Soviet Union in 1989. With my background in painting, drawing, and illustration I can provide students with a solid foundation in both classical and contemporary approaches to art practice. Being committed to both conceptual and perceptual approaches to art, I can bridge disciplines in the classroom. Through the years I have pioneered more than one interdisciplinary teaching project with subjects as different from the visual arts as chemistry.
Over the past eight years, as founder and director of Art School 99 in Somerville, I have had the opportunity to create painting and drawing courses in which my wide experiences converge in creative and innovative ways. I offer classes in experimental and classical painting and drawing as well as in mixed media, collage and portfolio preparation for high school students. I interact with all kinds of students of diverse social and economic backgrounds and am committed to offering them a rigorous art school environment. the artist states: “Whatever degree of abstraction defines my thinking and visual self-identification it has all to do with the search for my own image in a great existential sea of sweeping change.”
